Running for HIS Benefit
In April of this year, our MAPS Coordinator, Mr. Cadavid, attended the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists (NAD) Health Ministries convention. He had the opportunity to present information about our MAPS program, which stands for Mental, Academic/Artistic, Physical, and Spiritual, and to showcase some of what we do for our students here at HIS. We believe in taking care of the whole person, and this is the model we use in the education of our students.
After Mr. Cadavid’s presentation, Dr. Angeline Brauer, director of the NAD Health Ministries, informed him that the NAD had chosen HIS to be the beneficiary of this year’s 5K Virtual Run/Walk event. She let him know that $5 from every registration would be given to HIS!
So, on Sunday, September 17th, our students and staff gathered behind our gymnasium to prepare for our participation in the NAD 5K Virtual Run/Walk event. Our beautiful campus boasts several wonderful walking trails and roads that allow our staff and students to run or walk laps.
Mr. Cadavid took it a step further and turned it into a Color Run! This brought many smiles to our students’s faces. Earlier that morning, our staff marked out the course and then split off to their various stations in preparation for chalk spraying (the “color” portion of a Color Run).
A color run is a 5K, untimed event. At each kilometer marker, runners are sprayed from head to toe with varying colors of powdered chalk. This was a great way to get our students involved in the P of our MAPS program: physical activity. Fun was had by all!
Financial gifts from our generous friends make it possible for our staff to attend events that afford them the opportunity to advocate for our students and our little school in the desert.
God has shown Himself faithful in unexpectedly providing for our needs - in more ways than one. We give Him thanks and praise for His marvelous ways.
