SUMMER EXPERIENCE
In 2017, Holbrook Indian School (HIS) stepped out in faith and began providing year-round services to our students through the HIS Summer Experience. The purpose of this program is to continue to provide a safe haven, which many of our students depend on, throughout the summer months. Rather than regressing or risking new traumas, we aim to provide them with a place where they may continue to learn, grow, and thrive.
“Participating in the program was the best choice I made for my summer break.”
—Adrienna, HIS alumna
HIS Summer Experience is set up for students to gain valuable experience and enable them to pay a portion of their tuition by working on campus. There is a surplus of work opportunities and all involve high-standing work ethic. This is an excellent teaching opportunity for our staff to demonstrate the expectations of being a strong and reliable worker. Many of our students have not previously learned these skills. By the end of the summer, students have gained a work ethic and the rewards of a job well done.
God amazingly molds this program each year so that the faculty and staff can be His hands and feet to our students and community. One summer, our students even led a VBS program in the Navajo Nation. We are developing student leaders through participation in HIS Summer Experience.
The best part about the program is the bonding that develops between students and staff over the summer. With so much time spent together in small group settings, a family-like feel grows among everyone. This is what gives the summer program a special tone.
